Asian Salad Dressing in a Mason Jar

There is one salad that never lasts long at my house: cabbage slaw with chicken and a sweet Asian dressing.  It’s filling enough for a meal but is light and delicious as a side dish.  I love to make the Asian salad dressing in a mason jar and serve it with the Ergo Spout®.

HOW TO MAKE ASIAN SALAD DRESSING IN A MASON JAR

Making salad dressings in a mason jar is the easiest of tasks.  Simply place all of the ingredients in the jar, add a standard band and lid and then shake to emulsify.  This recipe is no different.  However, you will want to make sure you wait until all the sugar has dissolved.

HOW TO SERVE SALAD DRESSING FROM A MASON JAR

While preparing salad dressing in a mason jar is easy, serving it can be a bit messy.  No one likes greasy dressing dripping down the side of the jar.  You won’t have this problem if you add an Ergo Spout® to your jar.  Simply screw it on and serve directly from the jar without the mess!

WHAT KIND OF OIL IS BEST IN ASIAN SALAD DRESSING?

Asian salad dressing is best with an oil that doesn’t have any flavor.  Olive oil is too intense and will over power the other ingredients in this recipe.  It’s best stick with canola or vegetable oil.  The sesame oil is only meant to add flavor and can’t be used in place of the other oil in the recipe.

WHAT SHOULD I PUT IN THE SALAD?

The fundamentals of an Asian slaw include shredded cabbage and chicken.  If you are in a hurry a pre-made bag of coleslaw works great!  I like to add green onions and bell peppers along with mandarin oranges.  Don’f forget to top it off with something crunchy like won tons, chow mien noodles or sliced almonds.
